About Us
It started as a solution to a specific problem… and grew from there
We've all been there. You're put in charge of organizing a group of people for some activity. It could be a party or a card game. In the case of GroupValet founder Jeff Tomberg, it was a weekly golf game. "I wasn't organizing the game myself", explains Jeff, "but my friend Ari was".
That group started small, with just 4 or 5 members. But it quickly grew to 20. Ari was spending a lot of time organizing the games each week. He had to chase down people who didn't respond to his emails, and worse, he had to keep a spreadsheet of when members were in and out of town. That's not an efficient way to organize a group.
Being a website programmer, Jeff put together a small website that automated the tasks Ari was doing. The group was happy with the solution, and so was Ari. Other members at the club heard about this and asked if they could use Jeff's website for all types of group activities - tennis, canasta, mah jongg, and even committee meetings. Many members from this northern club asked if they could use Jeff's website at their winter clubs in the south. GroupValet was born.
The solution had unanticipated, and awesome, benefits
- Very early on, the team noticed something interesting. Groups that started using GroupValet were adding new members. Groups that started with 12 members suddenly had 25. It was common to see growth of 80% or more across various types of groups, just within the first month of use. Was this a fluke of timing?
- After speaking with a number of Group Captains the team heard virtually the same explanation. Before using GroupValet, the captains would limit the number of members in their group because of the amount of time and effort needed to manage them. With GroupValet the captains had almost no work to do. So when someone asked to join their group, it now was easy for them to say Yes! Having more members in the group meant more people were aware of the activities throughout the club, and that naturally led to more signups.
- In an era where clubs were concerned about the decline in rounds of golf, GroupValet had found a way to increase other activities at the club. GroupValet provides a platform where clubs can increase awareness about ALL the activities going on, create more participation across the board, and create happy members as a result.
